Wednesday Webinar Series Get the Gist

Overview

Dr. Deborah Reed demonstrates how to support middle school reading comprehension by teaching students to Get the Gist during reading. Students use the Get the Gist strategy across a text (or sections of the text) to:

  1. Name the who or the what.
  2. Tell the most important thing about the who or what.
  3. Say it in about 10 words.

Participant Outcomes

  • Learn the steps of teaching students how to generate a Gist statement
  • Practice generating and evaluating your own Gist statements

Intervention teachers, Special Educators, Reading Coaches, Instructional Leaders, Parent Educators
